Trib seeks applicants for 2022 journalism scholarship program

Trib Total Media is looking for aspiring journalists to apply for its Journalism Scholarship Program.

“Through this program, we hope to encourage, develop and inspire the next generation of promising young journalists,” said Jennifer Bertetto, Trib Total Media president and CEO.
Trib Total Media's Journalism Scholarship Program began in 2019 with the launch of the Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship. It is named after former Tribune-Review Managing Editor Jim Borden, who died in 2018.

The Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship is open to students attending or planning to attend a four-year college or university with a major in journalism, English writing or communication.

Each year, one student receives up to $30,000 awarded in annual installments of up to $7,500. The student also receives a summer internship with the Tribune-Review and TribLIVE.com and, upon graduation, an offer for full-time employment.

“Receiving the Jim Borden Scholarship was an absolute honor,” said Julia Felton, recipient of the inaugural Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship in 2020 and now a Trib staff writer. “It gave me the opportunity to work alongside incredibly talented journalists who taught me so much more than I could ever learn in a classroom, and it opened the door for me to enter into a truly rewarding field. I can’t imagine a better way to get started in the field of journalism.”

Diversity scholarship
Trib Total Media’s Scholarship for Diversity in Media will award up to $7,500 per year for up to four years to an exceptionally talented journalism, communication or English writing student who is culturally, ethnically or racially diverse.

The program includes a guaranteed yearly internship with Trib Total Media and, upon graduation, an offer for full-time employment.

The Scholarship for Diversity in Media is open to minorities as defined by the Equal Employment Opportunity Program (African American, Hispanic, Native American, Asian or Pacific Islander, multiracial).

Applicants must be current high school seniors, planning to attend an accredited four-year college or university with a major in journalism, English writing or communication and remain in the approved course of study through graduation.
